When I worked in sales, we were encouraged to share and celebrate small wins. A great conversation with a new employee at a business that always went to voicemail, or a business owner who answered the phone at the designated time he told you to call. Writing, much like sales, is a minefield of rejection. As a writer, I share my proudest accomplishments and consistently overlook the small wins.
Every week that I send this newsletter, to me, is a small win.
Thank you, Maggie, for reminding me. Maggie is not only a cherished reader of LR, but also the author of her own newsletter, titled This Grasshopper. Recently, Maggie wrote a newsletter about my newsletter. In my newsletter today, I share her newsletter about my newsletter — a newsletter, about a newsletter, about a newsletter.
Of her newsletter, she writes:
This little project has helped me reflect, carve out more time to write, and share more of myself with those of you who have followed along on this project. I’ve gained confidence, writing faster and editing less. I love the memories that get entrusted to my inbox in response, which are often quite vulnerable. I feel unexpectedly closer to my own experiences and closer to my readers.
I feel the exact same way. Writing can sometimes feel lonely, but reading is always a point of connection. Thank you to my writer friend, Maggie Lloydhauser, for letting me share her writing with you this week.
