Memory Collective II
The Memory Collective is the recreation of a project I found on the internet one lazy afternoon at my office. The mission of the Memory Collective is to explore the nature of memory, specifically the act and art of remembering: how we do (and don't) put back together those fragments and shards, those fleeting images and lasting impressions, that reside in our memories. At the start of our project, participants each submit a memory fragment. Each fragment was then passed on to another participant to interpret through the lens of their own memory. Our memories are published as a series in this newsletter. I encourage you to notice what these memories bring up for you: images, emotions, stories, regrets, earworms. What exists on the periphery of our memory? If you missed it, here is the first installment.
Katherine Lamb remembers Frazer Hadfield’s memory:
Let me tell you of an interview
With an Old Farmer Blue
He's got a cap and wellies and boots
But the poor old fella ain't got no suits
Aren't you jealous of the green-eyed eagle?
Om-ba-da-lip-ba-da-da
Stripping willows
Weaving baskets
Sicilian Circles
While the city is flyin' 'round and 'round
I keep my two feet firmly on the ground
Now I can't run but I'm tellin' you
I can dance the pants off your point of view
Ba-da-do, do-do-do-do-do, do-do-do-do-do
They can't run but I'm tellin' you
They can barn dance the pants off your point of view
The village sauntering down
Fish and chip vans and balmy evenings
Could never sleep
Due to the euphoria.
Frazer Hadfield’s memory:
Let me tell you of an interview
With an Old Man Emu
He's got a beak and feathers and things
But the poor old fella ain't got no wings
Aren't you jealous of the wedge-tailed eagle?
Om-ba-da-lip-ba-da-da
While the eagle's flyin' 'round and 'round
I keep my two feet firmly on the ground
Now I can't fly but I'm tellin' you
I can run the pants off a kangaroo
Ba-da-do, do-do-do-do-do, do-do-do-do-do
He can't fly but I'm tellin' you
He can run the pants off a kangaroo
